Additional Parasite Protection for Pets in Spain
Spain’s warm climate means that parasite prevention is just as important as vaccination. Mosquitoes, ticks and fleas can transmit serious diseases, so year round prevention is strongly recommended.
Leishmaniasis is a serious disease transmitted by sandflies a small mosquito like insect. Vaccination may help strengthen your dog’s immune response, but it does not completely prevent infection. Dogs should be tested before vaccination to ensure they are not already infected.
Heartworm disease is spread through mosquito bites and can affect the heart and lungs. Dogs should be tested before starting prevention or vaccination protocols. Early prevention is much easier than treatment.
Vet recommended protective medical collars can help reduce exposure to ticks, fleas and sandflies. During warmer months, we reccomend pet owners combine collars with spot on treatment pipeta for additional protection.
